What are Ideas, Exactly?

I was really excited to see such a response. It was great guys! Thank you all! I wanted it to be more interactive. So guys please send in your comments and suggestions.

Ok. What are Ideas? Jim Rohn once said “Ideas can be life-changing.” It’s true. Ideas are new relationships between the things we know, to make new things that we don’t know. I’m sure that’s a bit confusing. Let me put it this way. It’s that flash of light that lets you see things in a new way. So every idea is a new discovery. If you think now you’ll find new wine from old bottles. George Bernard Shaw explained it even better “If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.” "The secret of all effective originality in advertising is not the creation of new and tricky words and pictures, but one of putting familiar words and pictures into new relationships." - Leo Burnett. Advertising Ideas are the same, they weave words, images and sounds together in new ways every time to excite, entertain and enlighten the people. So how do we get one?

HI Arvind!

Really nice and not so much confusing your post. I had never read this Leo Burnett statement about advertising. But it absolutely makes sense.

Keep on writing.

And showing these wonderful ads we have here at the Creative Criminal.

Hey Arvind! This is great Blog indeed! Kudos! Talking of Ideas, an advertising guru that one had the pleasure of being a pupil to: Sam Rufus once said, an Idea's about 'Putting Commonplace to Context'; something exhibited in so brilliant and lucid a fashion by Thanda Matlab Coca Cola and Fevicol Ka Jod, that it has really - 'Rocked'. Echoing the thoughts of the legendary Leo Burnett.

COCC (an ode to the acronym era in Indian Cinema) is a great Blog Idea! Keep it up!

how do we get ideas? i think that through good information. knowing the needs of the past&present may leed to anticipating future ones. and it may lead to new ideas precisely by connecting past-present-future. just a thought:) i'm not an expert:p

I believe if I have an idea and you have an idea and we switch/share ideas. I think we then have three ideas apiece. I have my idea, (if i truly understand you) I have your idea and as we humans often do I filter your idea through my own set of sensibilities and graft my opinions onto your idea creating yet another idea.

Detach your mind from the real world and try to think of other thinks you probably need to built from things you already know, them combine them.
It's very hard.

Great blog, indeed. Keep it clear :]

Hiya

Totally un-related question. I am Indian but been living and working in Aus for the last 9 years and I want to make a move back home. I'm a strategy planner with Y&R here. Do you have any words on wisdom as to how I should go about finding work in Delhi? Would you have contacts for recruiters you wouldn't mind sharing with me? Thanks!!
