this idea was used for a cake frosting brand for years during the seventies and eighties in the u.s. it was duncan hines or pilsbury or betty crocker. one of those. and the tv ad would show someone cut a knife out of a paper plate and use it to ice a cake.

Frank Zappa even wrote a song called "Flakes" in 1970 where he said, "I'm a moron and this is my wife/She's frosting a cake with a paper knife."
